A pedestrian suffered serious injuries and is in a critical condition after being hit by a van in Leicester.

Police have arrested a man following the collision and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

The collision happened yesterday afternoon (2 September), in Parker Drive, which runs between Blackbird Road and Beaumont Leys Lane, shortly after 4.20pm.

A blue Vauxhall Vivaro van collided with a pedestrian, before continuing and then colliding with two cars, a Renault Scenic and a BMW 3 Series.

The pedestrian – a 40-year-old man – was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre, where he remains in a critical condition.

Another pedestrian was also injured in the incident and suffered minor injuries.

Police confirmed a man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while under the influence of drugs and possessing a class A drug with intent to supply. He remains in custody.

Parker Drive and a number of surrounding roads were closed while officers carried out their investigations.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hawkins said: “Our investigation is continuing and I am appealing for anyone who can help to get in touch.”

“If you saw what happened, then please contact police. If you saw any of the vehicles involved, or the pedestrian involved, prior to the collision, you may also be able to help.”
