Man seriously injured after stabbing in Leicester city centre

A man is seriously injured after a stabbing in the Braunstone Gate area of Leicester.

The incident took place at around 2am this morning (Sunday 23 August), it’s believed an argument between a group of people resulted in the victim being stabbed.

The victim was taken to University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire where he remains in a serious condition.

Two people, a man and a woman, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in police custody.

Braunstone Gate has been closed off to allow officers to carry out a search and examination of the area.  Motorists and pedestrians are being advised to seek an alternative route while those enquires are completed.

Detective Sergeant Scott Cairns said: “We are in the very early stages of our enquiries and are in the process of identifying potential witnesses and looking at CCTV from the local area.”

“Early indications suggest that there may have been an argument between a group of people.”

“Anyone who was in the area during the early hours of this morning and witnessed the incident is encouraged to contact the police if they haven’t done so already.”
