Man fined £10,000 for hosting house party, as new restrictions begin

A teenager has been fined £10,000 for hosting a large house party, breaking coronavirus rules.

The 19-year-old was given the fine after he allowed more than 50 people into his home on Friday (11 Sep) in Nottingham.

Neighbours reported the party to police at about 10.20pm, but local council officers who initially responded were met with hostility from the organiser.

Police officers were then sent to the property who found some 50 people in the house.

A spokesperson for the Police said: “This party was a clear example of a householder who deliberately flouted the rules without a care for anyone else and as a result we have used the full powers we have to deal with this.”

The teenager has apologised to his neighbours saying the “foolish gathering” was a “major lapse of judgement”.

The move comes before the new “rule of six” coronavirus restrictions come into force today.

The new laws limit social gatherings to six people indoors and outdoors in England. The rules affect places such as pubs, restaurants, cafes and public outdoor spaces.

The new rules are introduced as the UK’s R number escalated to between 1 and 1.2 for the first time since March, indicating infections are rising.
