New local lockdown rules imposed on Oadby and Wigston

New restrictions are being imposed in Oadby and Wigston from next week after large increase in Coronavirus cases in the borough.

The new rules will prevent residents socialising with people outside their own households or support bubble from next Tuesday (22 Sep). The new restrictions will bring the borough in line with the city of Leicester.

This follows a curfew introduced on local parks in the borough earlier this week, preventing their use between 5pm and 7am each day.

The restrictions have been imposed to curb the rise in coronavirus cases, with the borough currently experiencing the second highest infection rate in the country,

In a statement, the Department of Health and Social Care said: “In Oadby & Wigston, residents will be banned from socialising with other people outside of their own households or support bubble in private homes and garden.”

Councillor Neil O’Brien, said: “We are being brought into line with Leicester. It’s in our hands now to take the right action, follow the rules and prevent the spread of the virus.”

“If we do that, we should be able to avoid a stricter local lockdown which would be damaging for local businesses. I’m pleased that shops, restaurants, pubs and cafes will be able to remain open. It’s now about respecting the rules and doing what we can.”
