Police ask people not to speculate after serious incident in Leicester city centre

Police have confirmed two people have been seriously injured following a non-stop collision in Leicester city centre.

More details around the serious incident, which happened on Humberstone Road in the early hours of this morning, have been released.

Police were called to the area at around 1am, after reports that a blue VW Golf had collided with two male pedestrians.

It’s believed the pedestrians were standing near the junction with Wharf Street South, when the collision occurred.

One of the men fell through a window of a nearby restaurant as a result of the collision.

The men, one in his 20s and the other in his 30s, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A third man who was also standing with them escaped with minor injuries, after the car skimmed past him.

After the crash, two people ran out of the VW Golf and disappeared from the scene.

An investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident. Officers have asked people not to speculate while the incident remains under investigation. 

Detective Inspector Esther Scott said: “We are carrying out full enquiries to locate the two people who left the VW Golf and to establish the full circumstances of this incident including checking CCTV and speaking to witnesses.”
