Coronavirus rates in Leicester getting close to June lockdown levels

With coronavirus rates in Leicester increasing again, the city council is warning residents that infections are getting close to the June lockdown level.

There have been 6,830 confirmed cases in the city as at 25 September.

Confirmed positive cases of the virus peaked in the week of 26 June and have now gradually fallen, however there has been an increase in September.

The city has conducted an average of 670 Covid-19 tests a day, with the percentage of positive cases at 9% as at 18 September.

There has also been a change in the pattern of COVID-19 infections in the city over the last four weeks.

The maps below show how the concentrations of positive cases in Belgrave and North Evington eased towards the end of August. There is now a much wider spread of positive tests across the city.

There have been 839 hospital admissions for Leicester residents for COVID-19 up to 18 September. The recent increase in positive tests has not been replicated in admissions and COVID-19 admissions in September remain low.

The council is urging residents to follow the guidelines to curb the risk of transmission. This includes keeping your distance, getting a test if you have symptoms, washing your hands and wearing a face covering where required.
