Coronavirus cases reduce in Leicester, however these hotspots still remain

The number of positive Coronavirus cases have been gradually falling in Leicester after peaking at the end of June.

There have been 5,010 confirmed positive Covid-19 cases in Leicester up to 31 July. The chart below shows the total weekly numbers from 13 March up to 31 July 2020.

There has been an average of 1,400 Covid-19 tests conducted a day from 29 June to 31 July in Leicester. The percentage of positive tests has decreased during this period and now stand at 2%.

The city had a total of 421 positive Coronavirus tests in the 14 days up to 31 July. The map below shows the concentration of cases by city areas.

The number of hospital admissions of Leicester residents with Covid-19 has also been steadily falling. There have been 785 hospital admissions up to 31 July.

This year, there have been 1,763 deaths in Leicester up to 24 July. Based on average numbers for 2015-2019, the council said it would expect 1,509 deaths for this period. This reveals an excess of 254 deaths in Leicester during 2020.
