Body of man found after building fire in Leicestershire

A body of a man has been discovered after a building fire in Loughborough town centre.

Police were called by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service at around 8.40pm on Friday (23 October) to assist with road closures in the town.

The fire was in a derelict building in Fennel Street, which caused significant damage to the property.

Following a subsequent search of the building, officers discovered the body of a man inside.

A scene preservation currently remains in place while a joint investigation with Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service into the cause of the fire remains ongoing.

Officers have said their enquiries are at an early stage as they continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the man’s death, which is currently being treated as unexplained.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time or saw anyone around the building or entering it, to please get in touch.
